    Holiday Home Tour 2015

Welcome to the Holiday Home Tour 2015! If you are new to our blog or a frequent reader, we are so excited to have you here. Also, if you are coming over from Up to Date Interiors, welcome to you too. My name is Emily and I blog here at Elizabeth Joan Designs with my sister, Erin. Today, I’m sharing my a tour of my home decorated for the holidays. (Check out Erin’s My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition coming up next week.)

Are you recovering from Thanksgiving okay? I have been so bombarded with sickness over the past month, I can’t wait to start feeling better. Soon, I hope. Well, come on in and see our simple holiday decor for the year.

I recently shared an entryway update, but now I get to show it off all decked-out for the winter season.

Wreaths are so beautiful and simple, I knew this year I had to have mini ones displayed on our kitchen cabinets. I love the contrast of the green wreaths on the white cabinets.

Here in western New York we see a lot of snow. My attitude is if you can beat ’em, join ’em, hence the snowflakes on our kitchen window.

Oh, my pride and joy: our buffet table and pegboard. This is one of my favorite spots in the whole house. A few neutral touches brings this area up to speed with the rest of our holiday decor.

Who decorates their bathroom for Christmas? I do, and proud of it. Just because it is the smallest room in the house doesn’t mean it can’t join in the festivities.

We are introducing a new to us family tradition this holiday season. Ever heard of the Christmas Pickle? You can read all about it on Wikipedia.

Just like I shared in last years holiday home tour, we put up our Advent calendar again. Let the count down begin!

That’s all I have for you this home tour. Hopefully I will be feeling better soon so we can get our living room decorated before the holidays come and go. Have you started decorating yet?

    Framed Wallpaper Panels

Several years ago, while my aunt and uncle were remodeling their home, they passed along to me some awesome wallpaper they had leftover. I was totally smitten with the design and had plans to use the wallpaper on the inside of a bookshelf, but later decided not to, for fear that it’s loveliness would get covered up. Then, one day, I came across a post from The Hunted Interior with the idea of creating DIY framed wallpaper panels. And I loved it.

I knew that creating the framed wallpaper panels was the perfect solution to showcase my amazing wallpaper. I followed Kristin’s tutorial with a few tweaks here and there.

    Supplies:

I started by cutting the MDF board and trim pieces to my desired lengths (with a little help from the hubs). Mine measured 21″ X 49″, which was just a 1/2 inch wider than the original width of the wallpaper.

Next, I measured and cut the wallpaper to fit on the board. Using the paint brush, I applied wallpaper paste to the back of the wallpaper and attached it to the board.

While that dried, I painted the mitered trim pieces and then used wood glue to stick them on around the edges of the panel, creating a pretty frame. (Sorry, I forgot to photograph that step!)

Finally, using Command Strips, I carefully hung the panels on the wall (after measuring where they would go.) They only weighed about 6.5 lbs each, so hopefully they will stay up on the wall without a problem.

The panels are now happily hanging in our bedroom and I love that I can enjoy them everyday.

They were super easy to put together, but the most exciting part it that if we ever decide to move, we can easily take our framed wallpaper panels with us!

    Entryway Update

It’s been a while since I shared an Entryway Update. I have been working on few little things here and there, nothing major, but enough I wanted to give you a looksie on the happenings. You can take a peak at the entryway remodel to see what it looked like before these updates.

Because extra mulah isn’t always easy to come by when it comes to beautifying hallways, I decided to utilize our favorite tip for decorating when you are pretty much broke. Painting. I applied several coats of white paint our front door. What a difference that made. Buh-bye dingy, non-matching, off-white colored door, and hello clean, bright-white entrance!

    Painted Font Door

For our April Home Depot Monthly Gift Challenge, I created this lovely “hello” welcome sign using a 2×4. It has found it’s home right here in our entryway. Silently greeting everyone as they come in.

    Hello Entryway Sign

When we turned our coat closet into a bench, my vision for this space was to act as a comfy nook to read in, put shoes on, or a place to cozy up with the laptop and get some work done. It really has been just that, but the throw pillows are truly essential in making these ideas a reality. I already had the perfect pillows. They just didn’t match the space very well, but thanks to these gray and white striped cases I purchased from H&M, now they do! Yay!

    Entryway closet Update

Since the addition of the bench, we also added three wooden crates for shoe storage. I purchased the boxes from Walmart unstained. Then I updated them a with my favorite stain, Minwax Special Walnut.

    Crate Shoe Orgnaization

I am totally that person that can never find their keys. I am always miss placing them. I usually find them in the door lock, but that’s not something I can always count on. So to help remedy this situation, I added a few Command Hooks behind our front door to hand hang our keys on.

    Find your kyes

One of my favorite decor items I own is displayed here in the hallway: a faux succulent terrarium I purchased from the grocery store of all places. Doesn’t it look cute on my entryway bookshelf?

    Entryway Table Update

Well, that’s all I have for you today. We just LOVE how everything has turned out. Hope you enjoyed seeing the new changes around here.
