Home for the Holidays Tour
Hi and welcome to Emily’s home! Come on in!
This is the decor of our entryway. I’m a pretty simple gal, so my decorating tends to reflect that.
One night, I was having the hardest time going to sleep. I decided to do a little chalkboard doodling in our playroom and was extremely pleased with this tree I drew.
In our Kitchen/Dining Room area I have hung my DIY Advent calendar. This has been a huge hit in our house. Saying my boys love it, is probably an understatement.
I am still keeping things simple here with my wood shim Christmas Tree.
Some of my favorite ways to decorate is with touches of nature found right in my very own backyard.
Styling this fireplace and mantle brought me so much joy, that I felt the need to spell it out for everyone to see. Do you like our dollar store stockings hung by the chimney with care? I think they add a nice pop of color to our very neutral Great-room.
Take a real good look at this pic. My two boys in the same photo! This almost never happens!
These two Santas are very special to me. Our grandpa had mad wood working skills and had cut these
badgood boys out. Our mom painted the one on the left and the 10-year-old version of me painted the one on the right. (I know what your thinking, that I was a real prodigy, huh?) Our mother passed away when I 12 and these little guys became mine. When I was in my 20’s and moving all around the country, so did these Santas. I make sure they make my holiday decor cut every year.I found that this antique bassinet is a great way to keep our wrapped gifts safe from curious little fingers.
My oldest son keeps telling me we NEED more Christmas decoration. To keep his holiday spirit up, together we added little festive touches to his room. His favorite part is that he got his very own tree.
> Well, that’s it for the tour. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays to you!

The Home Depot Challenge – Chain
Sometimes good things must come to an end and that includes The Home Depot Challenge that I’ve been participating in for the past year. The ladies in this group have been so awesome to work with and I will definitely miss doing this with them. The last item chosen was a chain and I actually had finished the chain project in December, but the challenge was postponed, so I’m re-sharing my Holiday Card Display. I know it is a little out of place, since it is clearly for the Christmas season, but I’m sure this project could be modified to suit other holidays or as even a fun way to display photos or school work!
Click on over to the Holiday Card Display post to find out all how it is made. There have been a lot of other amazing projects shared including a Wine Bottle Bird Feeder, Rope Curtain Ties, 2×4 Artwork, Pegboard Luminary, Wood Box Caddy, Industrial Book Rack, and a Furniture Leg Snowman.
If you haven’t already, head on over to view the other amazing chain projects shared this month by clicking on the images below. We had a few guests join us and their projects totally rocked, along with all of the other creative ideas!

Holiday Home Tour 2015
Welcome to the Holiday Home Tour 2015! If you are new to our blog or a frequent reader, we are so excited to have you here. Also, if you are coming over from Up to Date Interiors, welcome to you too. My name is Emily and I blog here at Elizabeth Joan Designs with my sister, Erin. Today, I’m sharing my a tour of my home decorated for the holidays. (Check out Erin’s My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition coming up next week.)
Are you recovering from Thanksgiving okay? I have been so bombarded with sickness over the past month, I can’t wait to start feeling better. Soon, I hope. Well, come on in and see our simple holiday decor for the year.
I recently shared an entryway update, but now I get to show it off all decked-out for the winter season.
The Polar Express is one of our family’s all time favorite Christmas books. Wreaths are so beautiful and simple, I knew this year I had to have mini ones displayed on our kitchen cabinets. I love the contrast of the green wreaths on the white cabinets. Here in western New York we see a lot of snow. My attitude is if you can beat ’em, join ’em, hence the snowflakes on our kitchen window. Oh, my pride and joy: our buffet table and pegboard. This is one of my favorite spots in the whole house. A few neutral touches brings this area up to speed with the rest of our holiday decor. Who decorates their bathroom for Christmas? I do, and proud of it. Just because it is the smallest room in the house doesn’t mean it can’t join in the festivities. We are introducing a new to us family tradition this holiday season. Ever heard of the Christmas Pickle? You can read all about it on Wikipedia. Just like I shared in last years holiday home tour, we put up our Advent calendar again. Let the count down begin! That’s all I have for you this home tour. Hopefully I will be feeling better soon so we can get our living room decorated before the holidays come and go. Have you started decorating yet? Your next stop is Pretty Practical Home. Become inspired by hopping around and take a look at all of these amazing home tours happening all week!

White Farmhouse Christmas Living Room
It’s that time of year again! ‘Tis the season for holiday decorations, package wrapping, and cheer. Our house recently got a little lovin’ in the decor department and I can’t wait to share our White Farmhouse Christmas Living Room with you today.
I’m super excited to be participating in the Home For The Holidays Christmas Tour Hop (along with 33 other talented home decor bloggers) hosted by Jenna at Wife In Progress. If you are stopping by from Twelve on Main, Welcome! I’m so glad you are here!

Let’s start working our way around the room!
This year, we are keeping things pretty & simple. Since we are expecting a new arrival in late winter/early spring, our minds have been busy with trying to figure out how we are going to get through the massive to-do list we have vs. decorating for Christmas. Our living room is looking pretty lovely though!
I’m always one for neutral decor and the holidays are no different. Bringing in more natural wood tones this year helped to compliment the greens of winter.
We also added some flocked pieces, like wreaths and garlands. I figured that they would go well with the new flocked Christmas tree we splurged on this year!
How fun is this pillow I snagged from PCBHome?! It goes perfectly with the neutral look we are rocking while still adding a little bit of whimsy.
Look at that beautiful Christmas tree below!!!
The tree is a little smaller than our previous one, so it’s been fun trying to figure out exactly where we want to put it. (It fits in so many more places!) At first, it was on the other side of the room by the t.v., but I think it works better over here next to the sofa.
There is still a lot of wrapping to get accomplished before December 25th, but I’m happy to report that we have almost all of the presents purchased. That is a real accomplishment in this household. Usually, we are pushing up until Christmas Eve!
Since we purchased a new tree this year, I kept the ornaments the same as last year. Between that and the pre-lit tree, decorating was a breeze.
We don’t have a mantel in our home, so I always let the top of our piano pretend like it is one and decorate as such. Just a few pieces pulled from around the home create a collected and cohesive look.
This little corner is all dressed up with a cozy blanket, greenery, and comfy throw pillows. (Get the look for less: Hearth & Hand X Pattern Throw Pillow.)
And that brings us back to the entryway. I love how light and bright this area is looking. It has definitely come a long way since last year!

Lucky for us, we already have 5 knobs for stockings so we won’t need to make a new stocking hanger next year when we add another one to the lineup. *wink*
My favorite part of this space is still this antique typewriter that belonged to my grandmother. We love having sentimental pieces in our home!
I hope you enjoyed seeing our White Farmhouse Christmas Living Room! Your next stop on this blog hop is Ashley from Little Glass Jar who is sharing a beautiful home tour. You won’t be disappointed!
