    Kids’ Bedroom Makeover Progress

It has been forever since I’ve shared an update on our kids’ shared bedroom! (I think the last update was in May 2015.) However, I’m excited to finally share the finished wall and trim paint, along with the furniture pieces in the room. We just need to get a few more decorative items and the kid’s bedroom makeover will be complete!

You may remember that we decided to put both of our kids (one girl, now 11, and one boy, 4) in the same bedroom per their request. Click here to find out more about our original plan. They love to be together and the extra space it created allowed for a playroom.

    Stonington Gray BM Paint

We painted the bedroom Stonington Gray by Benjamin Moore. It is the perfect gray paint color and looks awesome in any light.

    Girls Desk Makeover

Even though she lost some storage space, our daughter loves sitting and doing homework here.

In the room, there is the vanity turned desk that we used to have in our bedroom. When the room change-a-roo happened, we did not have space for a big desk, so we swapped and our daughter has been using this one.

Girls White Desk Chair Aqua Smoke

I whipped up this fabric garland in just a few minutes and I think it adds the perfect touch of femininity to her little corner of the room.

Next, is this old dresser which we painted and added drop pulls. For awhile, it served as our entertainment stand, but we moved it into the kids’ bedroom since it was big enough to hold both of their clothes.

There is still some accessorizing to be done in here! We already have an old oar that we would like to hang on the wall above the beds. Also, there is some artwork that we may purchase/DIY to make a gallery wall above the dresser. However, we still really like the wire mesh pin board and if we keep it, there probably won’t be room for more. Oh, and curtains! I definitely want to get some new ones up in here.

Last, but not least, if you were worried about the lack of kid stuff in the room, it’s there. Most of the toys are in our playroom, but we keep a crate of stuffed animals under the window and they usually have a few on their beds too. (I pulled all of them off for pictures). The rest of their stuff stored under the bed or tucked away tightly in the closet.

This space is looking good and it feels great to be making some progress. Plus, the kids love their room and that’s what matters most!

Half Bathroom Remodel Part 2: The Final Reveal

Pop the cork on the champagne! Pull out the streamers and balloons! The big Half Bathroom Remodel Part 2: The Final Reveal is finally here! Since we started our remodel way back in January, to finally be done with the bathroom is definitely a reason to celebrate. Woohoo!

    Reveal 1

To see where it all began check out {Half Bathroom Remodel Part 1}.

We have recently added some shelving above our commode, to give our washroom some added storage.  For the shelves, we picked a 1″ high x 1′ deep x 6′ long piece of pine from The Home Depot. While we were there, we had them cut it into 3 equal pieces. Once we were home, I slapped a couple coats of white paint on each board.

To attach the shelves to the wall I used some brackets leftover from another project. They can be picked up at your local hardware store for around a buck a piece. For these shelves, I like how chunky these brackets are.

    Reveal 3

My diy {baskets} and {apothecary jars} provide cute, functional storage in our bathroom. I also added a picture frame with the words You Are Beautiful in it. Who doesn’t like a good ego bust in the mornings?

    Reveal 4

During this remodel, I had my first adventure in basic electrical work. When I flip the switch, the light comes on, so I called it a success. And I didn’t get shocked! Yay! I do not have a picture of the before light, but I assure you, this one is a huge improvement.

    Reveal 2

The mirror was a great find by my awesome sister, who picked it up for free. I happily traded her an old window I wasn’t using for it.

We love our new bathroom! I am impressed that we were able to do it all ourselves. It was hard work and took us several months but so worth it.

    Half Bathroom Remodel: Part 1

In January, we started remodeling our front entryway and half bathroom. It all started with the idea of turning our hallway closet into a bench seat and snowballed into completely remolding the entryway closet, hallway and the half bath, which is right off the hallway. With two little ones, this was a big project to take on. I am so thankful for nap time. How they slept though hammering and drilling, I will never know. It is now August and everything is functional, but there are still a few details we have to do before we can say we are finished. But onto the bathroom.

First, before we moved into our house, we removed the wall paper. If this is something you have never tried, it can be hit or miss depending of the room. One part fabric softener and two parts water, mixed together in a spray bottle, was the solution that we found worked best for our wall paper removal needs. Check out the lovely bathroom wall paper below.

After we moved in, we painted the walls gray and lost a knob on our cabinet and a bolt cover on our toilet. Never did find them.

Next, once we were ready to take on the ginormous project that is remodeling, came demolition. This is great way to get out all of your aggression. This tile came up really easily and the elimination of that hideous wall paper  that was hiding behind the cabinet happened mostly in one, big, ugly chunk.

We ousted the medicine cabinet and towel rack. Then, in no time at all, we had attached the backer board to the plywood floor.

Then, came the back-breaking hard work of laying new tile and grout.

Finally, we painted, added trim, and installed the new porcelain throne and pedestal sink.

Remodeling, is hard work but so gratifying. Have you remodeled a room in your home?
