    White Farmhouse Christmas Living Room

It’s that time of year again! ‘Tis the season for holiday decorations, package wrapping, and cheer. Our house recently got a little lovin’ in the decor department and I can’t wait to share our White Farmhouse Christmas Living Room with you today.

    Neutral Farmhouse Christmas Decor

I’m super excited to be participating in the Home For The Holidays Christmas Tour Hop (along with 33 other talented home decor bloggers) hosted by Jenna at Wife In Progress. If you are stopping by from Twelve on Main, Welcome! I’m so glad you are here!

Let’s start working our way around the room!

This year, we are keeping things pretty & simple. Since we are expecting a new arrival in late winter/early spring, our minds have been busy with trying to figure out how we are going to get through the massive to-do list we have vs. decorating for Christmas. Our living room is looking pretty lovely though!

    Neutral Living Room Decorations

I’m always one for neutral decor and the holidays are no different. Bringing in more natural wood tones this year helped to compliment the greens of winter.

We also added some flocked pieces, like wreaths and garlands. I figured that they would go well with the new flocked Christmas tree we splurged on this year!

How fun is this pillow I snagged from PCBHome?! It goes perfectly with the neutral look we are rocking while still adding a little bit of whimsy.

Look at that beautiful Christmas tree below!!!

The tree is a little smaller than our previous one, so it’s been fun trying to figure out exactly where we want to put it. (It fits in so many more places!) At first, it was on the other side of the room by the t.v., but I think it works better over here next to the sofa.

    Flocked Christmas Tree

There is still a lot of wrapping to get accomplished before December 25th, but I’m happy to report that we have almost all of the presents purchased. That is a real accomplishment in this household. Usually, we are pushing up until Christmas Eve!

Since we purchased a new tree this year, I kept the ornaments the same as last year. Between that and the pre-lit tree, decorating was a breeze.

We don’t have a mantel in our home, so I always let the top of our piano pretend like it is one and decorate as such. Just a few pieces pulled from around the home create a collected and cohesive look.

This little corner is all dressed up with a cozy blanket, greenery, and comfy throw pillows. (Get the look for less: Hearth & Hand X Pattern Throw Pillow.)

And that brings us back to the entryway. I love how light and bright this area is looking. It has definitely come a long way since last year!

Lucky for us, we already have 5 knobs for stockings so we won’t need to make a new stocking hanger next year when we add another one to the lineup. *wink*

My favorite part of this space is still this antique typewriter that belonged to my grandmother. We love having sentimental pieces in our home!

Farmhouse Living Room Decor: Room by Room Summer Series Week Three

It’s already week 3 of the Room by Room Summer Series and we are sharing our living spaces. (Last week was kitchens!) Come take a peek at our Farmhouse Living Room Decor.  It’s certainly nothing fancy, but we do enjoy this space for entertaining guests or snuggling up with a comfy blanket to watch a movie or two.

This is one of those rooms that only required minimal tweaking when we moved in. (Below is the room on move in day.) We really only removed the carpet to lay wood laminate floors and painted the trim. Then it was just a matter of putting in place our normal furniture, curtains, and decor!

Country House Home Tour Before Living Room

Let’s start here at the TV. and work our way around the room, mmmkay? I’m in love with ladders and like to use them in our decor around the house. (Check out this ladder we made for our bathroom.) We found this old beauty at a garage sale.

In the corner, we placed our old slipper chair.  A few months ago, I gave it a makeover and I must say it is still looking pretty good!

    Reupholstered Slipper Chair

The piano was my Mom’s. I was lucky enough to inherit this instrument and now our daughter is learning to play some beautiful music on it.  It is such a sentimental piece, but to be honest, I hate the color of the wood stain. However, I’m not brave enough to paint or re-stain for fear of ruining it, so like this, it will stay.

To try and tone down the color of the piano and brighten the area, I like to add shades of white and cream, such as the faux sheepskin, books, and candles.  For balance I added two DIY topiaries and my favorite magnolia wreath adorns the mirror above.

Our couch has definitely taken a beating over the years and you can tell.  However, it is still super comfy and perfect for movie night. And when it gets dirty, we can just pull the cover off and wash it. Since we have kids, pets, and light colored furniture, slipcovers are a must!

My favorite pillows right now are still the fun ones from my friend Kendra at Linen & Ivory. She has so many amazing options to choose from and pretty much all of them can be mixed and matched.

    Linen and Ivory Pillows

Don’t you just love tulips?  I think they are some of the prettiest, yet simple, flowers. These actually aren’t real, even though they look fairly convincing. I found them online for super cheap. (Purchase your own here!)

Finishing up this room decor tour is a photo of the view from our living space into our entry, which are basically the same room, just sectioned off by a big ol’ armchair.

So what do you think of our living room? As of right now, we really don’t have a lot of plans for this space, besides maybe some paint at some point. But we aren’t in any hurry with that. *wink*

My Home Style Blog Hop: Neutral Modern Farmhouse Tree

Welcome to the 2nd annual My Home Style Blog Hop: Christmas Tree Edition hosted by Casa Watkins. I’m so happy to be participating again this year and to be sharing my Neutral Modern Farmhouse Tree for Christmas with you. (Check out my Christmas tree decor style from last year.)

If you are heading over Lovely Etc., WELCOME to Elizabeth Joan Designs! My name is Erin and I blog about  all things DIY, decor, etc. Isn’t Carrie’s tree and style amazing?! I just love her glam winter wonderland tree. If I were brave enough, I would have flocked my own tree this year.  However, I opted not to because I have yet to research all of the details. (Is the flocking permanent? Can you unflock a tree?  Does it shed?)

    This Year…

    How To Photograph Christmas Tree

Anyway, my Christmas tree style for this year is similar to last year’s tree, in that I’ve used several of the same ornaments. However, I’ve really changed a few things up to give it a new, fresh look! Our tree is a lot brighter, thanks to some white batting (from a torn apart old pillow) that I added to give a freshly snowed upon look. I wanted to lighten things up and this was a great way to achieve that effect.

My Home Style Christmas Tree Neutral Modern Farmhouse Tree

One of the new items that we wanted for our tree this year was a new tree topper! (In the past, we’ve used a star and a monogrammed C; our last name initial.) When my hubby and I saw this cute white, glittered reindeer head, we knew it would be the perfect addition to our tree. Isn’t he cute?  I think we need to name him. *wink* And, for $6.98, I don’t really think I could have passed him up!

    The Ornaments

We opted to keep our ornaments simple and went with a few tried and true favorites, along with a new find.  I DIYed  the feather ornaments and silhouettes of our kids. The rest were purchased on the cheap! Monogram C from Walmart.

We’ve also added a bazillion new lights to the tree.  (OK, maybe that is a bit of an overstatement.) There are bigger bulb type lights mixed with traditional warm white lights. I love how glowy it looks in the evening!

    Neutral Modern Farmhouse Christmas Tree

You may not be able to tell from the photos, but tons of lights = tons of cords.  And I have yet to figure out how to hide all of these.  Seriously, when the Christmas lights are not on, it looks like I must have just thrown the bundles of lights at the tree and called it a day.  It truly is a mess. I guess that is something to try to figure out how to improve on for next year!

    Christmas Tree Glow Ornaments

Previously, I have described our home style as Neutral Modern Farmhouse and our Christmas tree definitely falls into the same category, even in this new house. I love to keep things simple with clean neutrals, but also have a comfortable and collected look. Kind of classic meets contemporary.

Paint Colors In Our Home: The City House

Last week I made the big announcement on the blog that we had moved to the country. Like fields of corn and wheat, in the middle of nowhere, COUNTRY. And that we plan to start a FARM of sorts. There are so many changes coming up! However, in the meantime, I wanted to share the paint colors in our home. You know, the old house, which we now lovingly refer to as the city house.

    Paint Colors in Our Home

It will probably come as no surprise that our paint colors are very neutral, since I’ve described our home style in the past as a Neutral Modern Farmhouse. What can I say? We love gray, greige and beige because they can work with so many different decor choices.
