Hello! We are here with a guest post from Stripes and Polka Dots, a blog also run by two sisters. They are showing us how to make an adorable Joss and Main knockoff pillow. We love budget friendly projects! Don’t you?
Hey it’s Hanna! In the blog world I call Stripes and Polka Dots
home where I have teamed up with my sister to create a place where we share our latest project, life lesson and pretty much everything in between. I am SO excited today to be guest posting here at Elizabeth Joan Designs. Being blogging sisters ourselves, Sara and I have been faithful followers of Erin and Emily for about a year now and still can’t get enough of all the amazing things these ladies come up with!
Today I’m sharing an easy and money saving pillow update using felt and some embroidery thread. I’m sure many of you have seen all those “word” pillows floating around Pinterst and stores like West Elm and Joss and Main. My inspiration came from one there that ran for $87…for a pillow! Now I’ll admit, I’m the kind of person who will sometimes splurge and buy something if it means saving me time but not for a pillow. So when I saw this pillow from Joss and Main I couldn’t think of a better diy project that I could do for my little girl’s room that I’ve been working on decorating.
Let’s begin with the supplies for this project. You don’t need much!
I found my pillow at TJ Max a few days earlier for $12. You could make your own pillow to add your felt words to or use one you already have. Also, I used 4 things of embroidery thread that you can get at Walmart or any craft store.
Now for the “How To”:
Start by sketching out your word(s) on some paper to the size you want it on your pillow. If you want to get super fancy and probably make it a little more easier on yourself you can also just print it off from your computer too.
Next, cut around your words then lay them front facing down onto the back side of your felt. Now trace around the words and cut it out.
Before placing the felt words on your pillow make sure you take the stuffing out if you are using an already made pillow. Once you have the words where you want them pin them onto the pillow.
For mine, I embroidered around the words to stitch them onto the pillow. You can also take the easy way out and sew around it on a sewing machine. I just like the look of the embroidered edges.
I used the stem embroidery stitch for mine which you can see a quick and good tutorial on how to do it HERE. Feel free to turn on a good movie or catch up on all your shows while you do this step if you choose to embroider yours!
Once you’re done remove the pins and you have a chic, updated pillow!
