DIY Note Cards From A Gift Box
My son recently received a gift and it arrived in a cute polka dot patterned gift box. The bottom portion of the box got smashed during the gift opening process. I really wanted to figure out something to use the top for so I wasn’t just throwing it away. That’s when I decided to make a few fun note cards from the leftover cardboard.
Here is what the top looked like before I started.
First, I deconstructed the lid by pulling the corners apart. Next, my paper cutter was used to sever the edges along the creases. That left me with just the center section of the cardboard.
Then, I cut the paper again into 3 equal sections. If you are trying this at home, you can make the cards any size you would like. This is just what worked for my needs.
Finally, I folded each piece in half and pressed down with the flat edge of a ruler to get a firm crease.
I also made a few itty bitty ones from the edges I cut off in the first step. I love these! Plus they were free! Yay!
Is there anything special you have saved from going into the garbage?

I love this! There are so many things that I hate paying for and I hate throwing away. Note cards and giftboxes fall into those categories, respectively. Thanks for such a great solution!

I have always found uses for paper or cardboard scraps . . . so I really enjoyed this post. Of late, I like to make colorful punches with the sides of all the pretty tissue boxes available now. It’s also fun to tear strips of wrapping paper tissue and make collage backgrounds.
Great post . . . fun blog. I signed up through +Google.
Thanks.

You were so right – that box was way to cute to just throw away. I’m always fishing things out of the bin, my family think I’m nuts! One thing I would say about making cards from offcuts like this – make sure you get your envelopes first and make the cards to match – more than once I’ve made a card then struggled to find a suitable envelope (“more than once” is a bit embarrassing, you would think once was enough!)

Thanks Julie! That is really good point about the envelopes! Glad you stopped by!
